Boston Bombing Suspects Quickly Apprehended

A sigh of relief that suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing incident have been speedily tracked down. These bombings were apparently the work of  two brothers. While the elder brother - Tarmerlan Tsarnaev - died in a shoot out with US police, the younger one - Dzokhar Tsarnaev - has been captured alive. There is a strong hope that the younger brother will provide some answers as to their motives for carrying out of such a heinous deed.
It is also good fortune that not too many lives were lost in these bombings. At the last count there were only three fatalities, with about 170 people injured. There is no doubt that the plan - by detonating not one but two bombs in an area full of people - was to cause more harm. A higher loss of life would have made a bigger statement for the perpetrators.
In the wake of the bombings it was heartwarming to hear that the next day the residents of Boston allowed life to go on. Some were seen taking their usual morning runs. They had not allowed fear to disrupt their lives. And this was something good, because the aim of perpetrators of terrorist acts is always to instill fear that paralyses.
To the families of the three people who lost their lives, we pass our condolences. And we wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

The DREAMS DO COME TRUE Tour - Part 17, Standard Bank - Protea Glen mall

Two days after doing the Old Mutual talk(Wednesday 10th) , I was back at this mall for another talk at Standard Bank.
And this talk nearly never took place. On my arrival at the branch - around 8.15am - I found a film crew milling about at the entrance of the branch. They were shooting an advert, I was told, and were going to use the bank's premises. But the bank manager decided that I must go ahead with my talk nevertheless.
The staff compliment of this branch was not that big. I addressed about six staff members (or so) in total. What I like about small groups is that the setting feels intimate. I got introduced to each staff member individually here, for example. There was even a chance for some small talk between me and them before the talk started. One staff member asking if my surname "Ke Setswana or Sesotho". It is Sesotho of course.
By the time the talk started, it felt like I was with a group of friends. More so because the talk took place in their lunch room while some of the were having their breakfast.
The absolute highlight for me from this talk was hearing one male staff member say, ''Sharp, TP!"as I left the lunch room. The talk had gone down well indeed.

                                          SOME THANK YOU's
- bra Oscar Ntuli(the manager) - for saying, "The show must go on, film shoot or not."
- Standard Bank staff - for allowing me into your space.

A Life's Work Rewarded

The Templeton Prize for 2013  that was awarded to the Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu this week is proof - if ever one was needed - that we can get rewarded for our good deeds while still here on earth. The reward of going to heaven because of our good work on earth will be an added bonus.
This prize to 'the Arch' - worth $1.7 million(R15 million) - was awarded by the Templeton Foundation, and is said to be for him doing much to spread love and forgiveness in his life time.
The religious/charity/social work field may not be that attractive to a lot of people, because it often looks like here one puts the welfare of others before one's own. But this recognition of  Tutu's work shows that it can be a worthwhile field.
   "Thanks for the inspiration, Arch."
